Eleocharis mitracarpa
The name Eleocharis mitracarpa has appeared in UK publications. This derives from identifications by the late Professor G.A. Swan of specimens from Scotland and Wales as ‘putative E. mitracarpa’.
I have prepared a ‘discussion document’, available for download ⇓here (PDF, 2.1 MB; opens in a new window), which does not support acceptance of this species in UK.
In brief, specimens in question can be readily accommodated within Eleocharis palustris subspecies waltersii (subspecies vulgaris).
A summary of this paper was published in ⇓BSBI News No. 123 (April 2013, page 3).
